Invasive diagnostics and therapy
-
Coronarography - an invasive procedure performed in order to discern the health of the coronary arteries. Once a catheter system is inserted into the aorta and the branches are found, a contrast is injected (a liquid substance visible under x-rays). During the prodcedure an x-ray lamp is turned on so that the blood flow through the blood vessels can be recorded and stored on a CD.
-
Ventriculography - Radiography of the ventricles of the heart by injection a contrast medium.
-
Peripheral Angiography – an angiogram of the kidney, neck, arm and/or leg arteries - an invasive procedure performed in order to discern the health of the peripheral arteries. Once a catheter system is inserted into the aorta and the branches are found, a contrast is injected (a liquid substance visible under x-rays). During the procedure an x-ray lamp is turned on so that the blood flow through the blood vessels can be mapped.
-
Right Heart Catheterization and Invasive Hemodynamic Monitoring.
-
Angioplasty of the Coronary and Peripheral Arteries - a procedure used to widen vessels narrowed by stenoses or occlusions. After a topical anesthetic is administered, a balloon-tipped catheter is inserted into the occluded artery. The balloon is subsequently inflated to widen the artery. The point of entry is either through the arm or the femoral artery near the groin.
